This senior hire reinforces our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation in the built environment across the UK. Based in Edinburgh, Becky will lead the expansion of our environmental and sustainability services, applying a system thinking approach and deepening the team’s expertise in key areas such as biodiversity, water and environmental assessment.

With over 20 years of experience in environmental consultancy across both public and private sectors, Becky brings a comprehensive understanding of sustainability challenges and opportunities to Civic. She joins from Sweco, where she was head of sustainability, energy, water and environment, and is also a board trustee for the Green Action Trust, and advisor to the Scottish Climate Intelligence service.

Her expertise will complement our well-established strengths in built environment engineering, transport, heritage, archaeology, sustainability and place-based consultancy, supporting the company’s vision of having a positive impact on the environment and enabling people to lead happier and healthier lives.

A key focus of Becky’s role will be to champion our strengths in caring for and protecting our climate and communities, providing strategic advice to clients on climate-positive policies that add value to projects - while working closely with collaborators to drive new opportunities for growth.

“Civic has a real culture of system thinking, sustainability, and leaving a positive legacy. My goal is to champion that and introduce new services that help us to have an even greater impact.” said Becky.

“We will provide trusted counsel to our clients, navigating them through compliance and the regulatory and legislative ecosystem. Helping them to de-risk projects, unlock funding and ultimately deliver long-term value for communities.”

Her appointment marks an exciting phase of growth for us, reinforcing the company’s dedication to sustainable and community-focused development, and adds momentum to our drive to double in size over the next three to four years and solidify the practice’s reputation as creating positive impact for people, place and the planet.

We continue to deliver transformative projects across the UK and Ireland that champion sustainable, inclusive design, alongside its growing portfolio of major UK projects including the award-winning 1930s retrofit of The Elephant in London, Climate Innovation District (CID) in Leeds, Manchester’s Stretford Kingsway, and Glasgow Avenues, which all reflects its strategy of carefully curated, sustainable growth.

Stephen O’Malley, CEO, commented: “We’re proud of our significant growth in recent years, driven by our reputation for having a positive impact, combined with our values and culture.

“Becky is exceptionally skilled and collaborative, she’ll play an important role in helping us to create better, more climate resilient and healthier towns, cities and places, now and for future generations”.

Alongside its studio in Lochrin Square, Edinburgh, we operates out of studios in Manchester, London, Glasgow, Leeds and Dublin.
