I started work as a graduate structural engineer with Civic at the end of a well-earned summer break after completing my MEng course in Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in 2023. I had known from an early age that I wanted to eventually work in the construction industry and for that to finally happen is a dream come true. I look forward to the numerous opportunities that come with working at Civic.

Outside of work, you may find me in the pub watching football or any other sports that are on that day with friends. As well as this, I have a passion for music and playing instruments including guitar, bass but most of all drums. I have played gigs at various venues around the country and intend on continuing this for many years to come.

I’m Aisling, Chartered Civil Engineer and Regional Director at Civic, I’m proud to lead our Dublin office and help grow a practice that puts sustainability and people at the centre of design. I’ve spent over 12 years working in transport and urban infrastructure across Ireland, the UK and internationally - shaping projects from early concept through to delivery.

Previously, I worked at Arup, where I led several infrastructure projects, and before that, I gained valuable experience working at AECOM in Dublin, New York City, and London.

I’m passionate about shaping the places we live and work through collaborative, inclusive design and building a team culture that reflects those same values. At Civic, I’m excited to keep pushing for innovative, sustainable solutions that genuinely improve how people move through and experience the places they live whilst delivering work that has real impact in the built environment.

Outside of the studio I love cooking/baking and am currently learning to play tennis.

I graduated Plymouth University in 2019 having studied civil engineering. I undertook a placement year at Gravity Consulting Engineers where I took part in many residential new builds and refurbishments. Most recently I graduated from the University of Leeds with a Masters in Structural Engineering.

I have always been fascinated at the design of buildings and wanted a master’s that could expand my knowledge in that area. This fascination led me to be accepted by Civic and start my career in engineering. My focus for the future has always been for positive and sustainable engineering and Civic hold the values for me to do just that.

Outside of engineering I enjoy watching and playing 5-a-side football. I have recently started learning golf and try and play as much as I can. One of my biggest passions is supporting my local football club, Charlton Athletic. Most weekends I spend my time up at ground cheering on the team through thick and thin.

After graduating from the University of Leicester in 2019 with an MGeol (Hons) in Geology, I honed my site investigation and data analysis skills before advancing into geotechnical design. In April 2024, I joined Civic's Leeds Studio. I provide geotechnical knowledge across site investigations, earthworks, settlement & slope analysis, and interpretive reporting. I’ve supported the delivery of key projects across Liverpool, Manchester, Oldham, and Middlesbrough, including successful handovers of remediation and earthworks programs.

I believe in delivering sustainable, pragmatic solutions where the built environment meets the natural world. My role gives me opportunities to help reshape how these environments coexist and support regeneration for future development. Beyond work, I keep busy with cycling, hiking and snowboarding.

My wife and I love to travel and have visited 5 continents, with our latest trip involving a little red campervan called Orie and a month touring the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand.

Structural BIM Technician

Email Alex

Hi, I’m Alex, a Structural BIM Technician based in Civic’s Manchester studio. Before switching careers in 2020, I spent 13 years as a Powder Coater. Since beginning my career as a CAD technician, I’ve developed a strong interest in digital construction, BIM, and Revit modelling. I’m passionate about the idea that the built environment can achieve more through a digital platform.

I completed my HNC in Construction and the Built Environment in 2023 and now study Civil Engineering (BEng Hons) part-time at the University of Bolton. Before moving into the field of Civil Engineering, I worked in the façade sector, as a CAD Technician and contributed to hospital projects involving curtain wall screens and windows.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family and supporting my 11-year-old son, who plays tuba in two brass bands. I travel across the country for his concerts—and love hearing the bands perform.

Civil Engineering Technician

Email Alfie

My name is Alfie Brewster and I am an civil engineering technician here at Civic. I joined the London team in July of 2017 as an apprentice. From a young age, I was always fascinated by architecture and megastructures, seeding from my love of Ancient Greek and Roman history.  Once in secondary school my love for design flourished with the introduction of the CAD software that the school had to offer and I have been hooked on honing my skills on similar software ever since. Civic gives the opportunity to do just this, allowing me to develop my existing skills whilst learning new ones every day. Being part of the team is very exciting and I look forward to what the future brings.

I would describe myself as an outgoing individual and a slight health freak, keeping myself active by going to the gym on a regular basis. I enjoy travelling all over the country going hiking and climbing with one of my most recent ventures being to Snowdonia and climbing Mt Snowdon. I am very passionate about photography, it allows me to capture moments and share them with others that otherwise wouldn’t experience. However, I believe that some moments should be enjoyed purely there and then and not exclusively through a camera lens.

Email Amina

Hi, I’m Amina, a Sustainability Consultant based in Manchester. I hold an MSc in Sustainable Buildings (CABE accredited) from the University of Salford, where I focused on energy efficiency through building design and embodied carbon. Before pursuing my master’s and joining Civic, I worked as a Commercial Surveyor in Manchester, having previously graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate from Birmingham City University.

Over the years, I’ve developed a real passion for improving the sustainability of development projects. My work is centred on finding the most effective ways to reduce carbon emissions by balancing energy demand with embodied carbon, always looking for the best overall solution to enhance a project’s environmental performance.

Outside of work, I like to stay active through weightlifting, running, and hiking. I also volunteer with two fantastic charities, Lifeshare and Shout 85258, where I use my spare time to support vulnerable people.

Hi. I am originally from Donegal in the north west of Ireland. I moved to the UK in 2007. I completed my ONC and HNC at Bolton College and subsequently my BEng in Civil Engineering at Bolton Uni. I began my career as a technician working on the rivers and coastal team. I was confined space trained and completed asset inspections for the EA. Following completion of my degree I developed experience in producing FRA’s and Drainage strategies. I was introduced to Civic by an old colleague, she was enthusiastic about Civic’s strong focus on sustainability, diversity and general team focus and I am yet to be disappointed!

I enjoy going home when I can to see family & friends. In particular, I support Gaelic football and my county team, Donegal. My most memorable moment was winning the All Ireland final in 2012 for the first time in 20 years and watching it on the on the big screen in my hometown. Since 2012 we have won 3 Ulster titles. If it wasn’t for Covid 19 I have faith that 2020 would have been our year too!! I also enjoy going to gigs and festivals when I can, preferably festivals where the weather is a little more reliable.

Having initially studied at the University of Manchester, I spent 10 years practicing structural engineering within the London market for two design led practices, AKTII and Heyne Tillett Steel, where I worked on a wide range of new-build and refurbishment projects with project values up to £210M, several of which include collaboration with signature Architects on award-winning schemes.

In 2019 my family and I decided to move back north to reside in North Yorkshire before joining Civic in 2021. I have experience throughout all RIBA stages of work in multiple building sectors including commercial, residential, office, tourism and education with extensive experience in the use of RC and steel-framed structures, including basements, high-rise and extension of existing structures.

Outside of work I endeavor to keep fit through running and cycling and when I get a spare few minutes, there is always some DIY to do.

Hi, I am an engineer with an extremely broad range of experience gained over 20 years, driven by a strong desire to gain an expansive perspective on the role and contribution of the structural engineer. My experience covers most building types.

The emphasis in my first ten years of professional practice whilst working at Alan Baxter & Associates lent towards existing buildings, developing an appreciation of their structural anatomy and strategies for their conservation, alteration, repair and reuse. This was interspersed with the structural design of a variety of new buildings, which helped me to develop an early interest in architecture, contemporary design and collaboration as part of a design team.

Work over my second ten years as a director at AKTII, built on these early foundations, with emphasis towards design-oriented projects with high profile architects both in the UK and abroad. I was privileged to lead the structural engineering for Bloomberg’s 2018 RIBA Stirling Prize winning new European Headquarters in London as part of an amazing project team. I am a big believer in the power of a team and the need to promote good chemistry on projects to deliver better results. I also enjoy sharing knowledge and have been a visiting lecturer at several architecture schools as well acting as a mentor to many engineers.

Outside of the engineering world, I’m a keen cyclist, guitarist, school governor and active travel advocate, whilst being a dad to two teenagers who are growing up too fast for my liking. I enjoy re-purposing leftovers from home DIY projects.
