Talking circular economy, residential retrofit and system thinking with NLA
Sharing London director Gareth's insights from the NLA's Net Zero Expert Panel.

Our London Director, Gareth Atkinson, is proud to be Chair of NLA’s Net Zero Expert Panel (NZEP). The new cycle of the panel kicked off earlier this year, bringing together new members and setting the tone for the year ahead with a clear focus: tackling the built environment’s role in achieving net zero.
In their first session, the panel explored three core themes:
- Circular Economy & Reuse – Emphasising the importance of material reuse and resource efficiency in construction and development.
- Residential Retrofit & Green Growth – Addressing how we can scale up retrofitting homes to reduce emissions, while also stimulating sustainable economic growth.
- Net Zero Leadership & Systems Thinking – Highlighting the need for cross-sector collaboration and systemic change to drive real progress. Gareth shares his insights and takeaways from each of these discussions in his latest article published by the NLA. It’s a great read for anyone interested in shaping a more sustainable future for London’s built environment.
