Bawnogue District Centre gets a new lease of life
Our latest Irish public realm project creates a greener, more accessible and welcoming centre for the Bawnogue community.
The enhanced Bawnogue District Centre in Clondalkin, Dublin, has officially launched, marking the completion of a project focused on creating a more welcoming and people-focused local centre.
The scheme was officially launched by South Dublin County Council (SDCC), with the event bringing together Mayor Francis Timmons, Cllr O’Hara and Cllr O’Broin, alongside local residents, traders, stakeholders and those involved in bringing the project to life.
Working with SDCC and Kilwex Ltd, we provided civil engineering expertise as part of the wider project team. Bawnogue District Centre is an important local retail and community hub, serving the surrounding residential area, so the enhancement scheme set out to make the space work better for the people who use it every day.
The focus was on improving how people move through and experience the centre, while creating a more attractive setting for local businesses and the wider community.
Pedestrian-friendly improvements, nature based solutions, new planting and upgraded public realm have helped to soften and green the space, while durable, high-quality materials provide a cohesive finish across the wider pedestrian areas. Together, these changes create a more accessible and inviting environment where people can shop, meet, pause and spend time.
It’s also a project that reflects the value of working closely with the people who know a place best.

Aisling Murphy, Ireland Director at Civic, said: “When you’re working on a place like this, you can spend a long time looking at plans and details, so seeing people actually moving through the space, stopping, shopping and enjoying it is the bit that makes it all worthwhile.
“There’s been a great team behind this project and we’re really pleased to have played our part through the civil engineering design and to see the finished scheme giving the centre a fresh lease of life.”
Bawnogue District Centre is another addition to our growing portfolio of work in Ireland, where we’re continuing to work with local authorities, communities and project partners to help create places that work well for people and planet.
And now the plans have become a place people can actually use, enjoy and make their own.
