Engineering that brings art to life

New "playable structure" open to public in Bradford, worked on by our engineers

Bradford structure

We’re all about creating healthy places and spaces where people can thrive.

That’s why we’re so proud to have contributed to this playable sculpture for #Bradford2025. Our structural engineers in Leeds designed the foundations so each stacked block can move independently, making the sculpture interactive, safe, and built to last.

The interactive nature of the sculpture meant that the design of the foundation needed to account for the dynamic effects of each of the movable blocks, adding additional complexity to the design process.

We love that this project creates positive impact for people, place and the planet.

The design is efficient, durable, and mindful of its environmental impact, it encourages play and connection, inviting visitors of all ages to interact with the sculpture, and it adds something distinctive and joyful to Bradford’s public realm during its year as UK City of Culture.

Hannah Keighley who led the project reflects:

“The structures I design are so often hidden from sight when everything is complete... but I don't mind so much when it looks this awesome!”
