Double win at the IStructE North West Structural Awards 2025
Civic wins two awards at the IStructE North West 2025 Structural Awards
We’re proud to share that we won two awards at the IStructE North West Structural Awards 2025 - a fantastic recognition of the creativity, collaboration and engineering excellence across our projects.
- Goods Yard, Stoke - Winner: Project Constructed Outside the North West Region
- Campfield Market, Manchester - Winner: Most Sustainable Project
Goods Yard, Stoke
The Goods Yard project is a £45 million regeneration scheme led by Capital & Centric in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Once a disused railway goods yard, the site has been transformed into a vibrant canalside neighbourhood - delivering new homes, workplaces and public spaces that reconnect the city with its industrial heritage.
Civic was appointed as civil, structural and transport engineers, designing innovative solutions to integrate new buildings with the existing Victorian basement and signal box. The 10-storey Build-to-Rent structure, steel-framed Pavilion and restored Vaults celebrate exposed structure and robust materials, while modern methods of construction - including precast concrete and Bamtec reinforcement - improved efficiency and reduced waste.
Campfield Market, Manchester
Our work at Campfield Market focused on the sensitive restoration of Manchester’s iconic Grade II listed Victorian market halls. Working with Allied London and Project 3 Architects, Civic developed a lightweight, non-intrusive structural design to transform the historic spaces into a next-generation hub for the tech and creative industries.
The “meanwhile use” approach ensures that all interventions can be easily removed, preserving the original fabric of the building. Innovative lightweight steel and concrete structures were designed to “touch but not attach” to the existing iron frame - a clever engineering solution that minimised embodied carbon and safeguarded heritage value.
These two awards reflect our commitment to designing engineering solutions that are creative, low carbon and people-focused.
Congratulations to all our project partners and teams involved - and thank you to the Institution of Structural Engineers North West for recognising our work.
