Excavation of the 19th-century Adelphi Baths

Archaeological excavation provided unforeseen physical evidence of Salford’s earliest bathing establishment, Adelphi Baths. The investigation was initially undertaken by our archaeology team and revealed the well-preserved remains of the stone-clad, 1st-class swimming pool and changing stalls, with the more fragmentary remains of the gentleman’s warm baths and second-class pool. Pipes were traced beneath the three swimming pools which demonstrated how a constant flow of clean water was maintained. More recently the team produced the excavation report and an information panel placed at the site.
