Team Civic on the couch
Team Civic chat all things system thinking with a couple of leadership development coaches.

Gareth Atkinson, Director of our London studio, Katrina Davis, director of communications and culture, and Rob Harris director of Civic South MEP, were invited to be guests on the ‘Coaches on the Couch’ podcast which is run by leadership development coaches, Rachel Birchmore and Louise Rodgers, and talks all things business development and progressive leadership.
The three of them chatted about how collaboration and diversification is key to building a sustainable built environment, and Civic’s approach to building a strong team. Gareth spoke about why system thinking is central to our work, and how our new services - Civic Earth, Civic Heritage, and New Practice - are helping us create greater impact through diversity and specialisation. Gareth says, “Thinking about the built environment as one system through the diversification of our services gives us a greater ability to create a holistic piece of work.”
Rob reflected that people, purpose and performance are three core values at a meaningful workplace. At Civic, he believes these ideals are truly lived where everyone shares a common purpose: to create communities and spaces that people enjoy spending time in, all while minimising carbon impact. "It's easier to grow by diversifying services, which is an incredibly resilient business strategy".
Katrina discussed Civic’s authentic commitment to acting with Conscience - the belief that when people share common values and purpose, building a strong, collaborative team comes naturally. By placing relationships at the heart of what we do, we strengthen our ability to work as a truly unified and effective team. "We have something called our Conscience, it's about how we work and what sort of projects we believe fit with our values".
