Last week, we hosted a Women in Property Scotland site tour of a project with a unique mix of new build and retained structures – our PBSA scheme on Baltic Street in Leith, Edinburgh.
Our associate engineer in Scotland, Lucie Killen, and senior civil design engineer, Ross Campbell, walked attendees through the story of the site – from its industrial heritage to the engineering challenges shaping its future, joined by Alice See-Hoo from MLA – before heading out on site to see it all in action.
Our PBSA scheme on Baltic Street is the largest single-site purpose-built student accommodation development in Edinburgh. It brings together new reinforced concrete buildings and retained historic structures, layered ground conditions, tidal influences and a drainage strategy designed to exceed current performance standards.
The tour sparked great discussion around structural reuse, working within existing fabric, flood risk, SuDS and how early, collaborative engineering decisions can unlock complex urban sites rather than constrain them.
A big thank you to Women in Property Scotland for collaborating with us, plus HUB, MLA, McAleer & Rushe, and to everyone who attended on the day.
Keep an eye out for any future events!
