Eden at New Bailey wins national ESG award at BCOs!
We’re proud to have been part of the hugely talented team and support with decreasing the award-winning project’s embodied carbon

The judges at the British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards summed it up perfectly:
“Heralding a new era in responsible new builds, this year’s champion is truly standard-setting.”
Eden is a 12-storey 115,000 sq ft office block in Salford, developed by The English Cities Fund, a joint venture between Muse, Legal & General and Homes England.
We were appointed as both structural and civil engineers by the project’s main contractor, Bowmer + Kirkland, to take the design forward to construction. Our team, led by director James Bruce, worked closely with Bowmer + Kirkland to refine the project’s structural engineering designs, maximise its performance and further decrease its carbon footprint.

As lead civil and structural engineers on this landmark project, we’re extremely happy to see Eden celebrated for its industry-leading approach to sustainability and community.
Eden represents a shift in how we think about sustainable design. It’s not just about carbon reduction targets - it’s about rethinking the whole design process:
- Using low-carbon materials intelligently
- Designing for longevity and adaptability
- Embedding nature-led principles into every decision
A huge congratulations to all the teams involved in creating one of the UK’s most sustainable workplaces. It’s been a privilege to play our part in bringing this vision to life.

James Bruce, director in our North studio, reflects:
“Eden is strides ahead when it comes to creating inspirational structures with world-class sustainability credentials. As a flagship development, it’s well deserving of its reputation as a greenprint for the future of office developments.
“By working together as a forward-thinking team, and pushing the boundaries of sustainable design and construction, we’ve achieved something really special. As we work together to tackle the climate crisis as an industry, it’s important to share these lessons, to encourage innovation and collective action on a wider scale and set the standard.
It’s fantastic to see the collective achievement being celebrated.”
