I’m Sophia, a Sustainability Consultant with experience across the built environment.
My interest in sustainability was shaped by growing up in a family who spent lots of time outdoors climbing and trail running. Growing up dual heritage has also given me a broad outlook on life and an ability to see the world through more than one lens. I think both of these experiences have influenced the way I approach sustainability today, understanding that there is rarely one perspective to consider.
I studied Business Management at undergraduate level, which gave me an understanding of how businesses operate and the role they can play in driving change. This helped me see sustainability as something that needs to sit within the bigger picture of how organisations make decisions to operate successfully and create value. From there, I went on to study a Master’s in Sustainability and Consultancy at the University of Leeds, which ultimately set me on the career path I’m on today.
In my role at Civic, I work across different types of projects within the built environment, with a focus on environmental impact assessments. I enjoy this side of sustainability because it allows us to understand the potential environmental impacts of a project and identify opportunities to improve them. This turns sustainability from a broad ambition into something that can be measured, understood and acted upon. Our work gives clients and project teams the information they need to achieve better outcomes.
I’m driven by finding ways to make a positive impact, which has recently led me to explore how new technologies and tools can help us work differently and deliver greater value.
