Hi, I’m Laura. I’m a Chartered Structural Engineer and Associate Director at Civic, based in our London office. I joined the team in early 2025, bringing over 20 years of experience in the UK consultancy industry. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with some fantastic teams on all sorts of projects — from commercial and residential developments to industrial, education, and community buildings, as well as retrofit and refurbishment work. I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for mass timber projects and love the challenge of working with tricky ground conditions — the more complex, the better!
If there’s one thing people often say about me, it’s that ‘Laura loves a course’, and it’s true! I’m passionate about continuous learning. In 2019, I took on my second master’s degree at the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership. The course, Sustainable Leadership for the Built Environment (formerly the IDBE), really opened my eyes to how we can drive meaningful change when different professions and disciplines work together. I’d recommend it to anyone in construction — it deepened my understanding of sustainability and gave me practical tools to create positive impact in my professional and personal life.
Outside of work, you’ll most likely find me on a hockey pitch — I play competitive field hockey most Saturdays during the winter season. When I’m not engineering or playing sport, I’m chasing after my young daughter, who ensures life is never dull!
