Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Leeds or Manchester

Are you an early-career Geotechnical Engineer ready to contribute to a diverse range of high-profile projects across the UK? We’re looking for a motivated engineer with 1–2 years’ experience to join our growing team.

As a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll play an active role in project delivery from concept through to construction. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and industry specialists, gaining exposure to technical design, analysis, and site investigation, as well as client and project management experience.

Key elements of the job:

Technical

  • Undertake geotechnical design and analysis for a variety of projects.
  • Contribute to high-quality reports including desk studies, interpretative reports, and design reports.
  • Specify and supervise site investigation works.
  • Prepare and check technical drawings, calculations, and data.
  • Use industry-standard software for slope stability and ground movement analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and internal quality management systems (QMS).

Project and Client Management

  • Support senior engineers and project managers in delivering high-quality outputs to deadlines.
  • Liaise with clients, collaborators, and contractors by phone, email, and in meetings.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings as part of the wider project team.

Professional Development

  • Work towards Chartership with the ICE or GeolSoc, supported by our internal mentoring and CPD programmes.
  • Take part in technical and professional training, including our Civic Academy and other learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrate behaviour aligned with our values and contribute to the ongoing success of the practice.

Competencies

  • Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
  • 1–2 years’ relevant design experience within a commercial or consultancy environment.
  • Working towards Chartership (ICE or GeolSoc).
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong report writing and graphical presentation abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel and Word) and familiar with geotechnical analysis software.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive approach to work.
