We’re celebrating Stretford Kingsway being shortlisted for two prestigious British Construction Industry Awards.

The project, which demonstrates how people-first design and integrated infrastructure can reconnect communities – is up for both the ‘Placemaking’ and ‘Environmental’ awards this year.

Kingsway, a previously a four-lane, car-dominated corridor, was redesigned as a people-first, green street through Future High Street Funding.

We were lead designers on the project, collaborating with Exterior Architecture, LK Group, FCB Studio, Simon Fenton Partnership and A.E.Yates.

The new design prioritises active travel with widened footways, dedicated cycle lanes and safer pedestrian crossings. SuDS features contribute to flood resilience, improved air quality, and urban cooling - while enhancing the visual and ecological quality of the area.

It comes hot on the heels of the project winning a golden Pineapples Award for ‘Inspirational Infrastructure” earlier this year. The Pineapples judges said how Kingsway, "Sends a clear message to be creative and take a different approach to enjoy fantastic outcomes.”

The British Construction Industry Awards celebrate and honour the outstanding contributions of the British construction industry to society. Last year, our ‘urban mining’ at The Elephant and TBC.London won ‘Environmental and Sustainability Initiative of the Year’, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed again for the ceremony in October.

“This project sends a clear message to be creative and take a different approach to enjoy fantastic outcomes.”
