Proud sponsors of NLA Retrofit Summit
Championing retrofit through strategic partnership, collaboration and knowledge sharing

We’re proud to once again be sponsoring the New London Architecture (NLA) Retrofit Summit, reinforcing our commitment to driving sustainable transformation in the built environment.
Advancing the retrofit revolution
The NLA Retrofit Summit showcases how built environment practitioners are reinvigorating, reusing and decarbonising London's existing building stock.
We recognise that retrofitting represents one of the most critical pathways to achieving net-zero carbon targets and creating resilient, efficient for the future.
Taking place on 12th November, the summit brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to share best practices, explore cutting-edge technologies, and address the complex challenges facing retrofit projects across London's diverse building portfolio. It’s important for encouraging:
- Commitment to knowledge sharing: The summit provides an invaluable platform for exchanging insights on emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and practical solutions that can accelerate the adoption of sustainable retrofit practices across the capital.
- Industry collaboration: Retrofit projects require seamless collaboration between multiple disciplines. The summit fosters the partnerships and relationships essential for delivering successful, impactful projects.
- Supporting London's climate goals: As London works toward becoming a zero-carbon city, retrofitting existing buildings plays a crucial role.

The retrofit revolution is well underway, and we’re proud to be part of this critical movement.
Our team is playing a key role in helping to shape the industry’s response, with Stephen O’Malley, our CEO a member of NLA’s Sounding Board, a highly influential group of senior industry leaders who shape NLA’s strategic direction in London’s built environment. Gareth Atkinson, director leading our London studio, chairs the Net Zero Panel and director Leah Stuart is a member of NLA’s Transport and Infrastructure Expert Panel.
We were also one of the founding members of The Engineers Reuse Collective, a not-for-profit group committed to accelerating reuse in the built environment to support the transition of the UK’s construction industry to Net Zero Carbon. Read more about how you can get involved here.

Our retrofit expertise in action
Earlier this year, our projects were highlighted by NLA’s adaptive reuse study as best in practice examples of the positive impact retrofit can deliver. They included:
- The Elephant, London - the multi-award-winning transformation of a 1930s department store on Oxford Street into a sustainable, office-led mixed-use development, retaining much of the original structure and reusing steelwork to drastically reduce embodied carbon emissions
- Tileyard North, Wakefield - a transformational regeneration project on Wakefield’s waterfront to reimagine the historic Rutland Mills complex as Tileyard North, a new creative hub. Our team delivered civil, structural and transport engineering on the project that has saved a significant piece of industrial heritage
- PadelBox, London - a redevelopment in South Bermondsey that has transformed a historic warehouse into a modern multipurpose sporting venue, designed to bring community together through accessible sport
- Kinning Park Complex, Glasgow – the redevelopment of an Edwardian school building, making the most of the building’s heritage and existing structure to create functional, flexible and accessible community and creative space
- 80 Strand, London – the retrofit of the landmark, Grade II listed Shell Mex House, creating a flexible workplace for the future with complex structural engineering design
